Coopers Future Day

On the 9th of November Switzerland celebrates the so-called "Zukunftstag" (Future Day). This tradition was first initiated in 2001 as "National Daughter Day" and was very successful. Today the idea of this day is to encourage gender equality when it comes to deciding on a profession. It is a project where schools, businesses and parents cooperate.

Guido Schilling, Managing Partner and Ambassador of the Future Day says: "Research has shown that when men and women work together in teams they achieve the best results. Therefore, young people should not decide on a "male profession" or a "female profession", but for a profession they are passionate about. The Future Day helps boys and girls discover what their passion is.

On this day girls and boys are allowed to accompany their parents or a relative to work. Maybe you saw a little girl sitting next to the bus driver or a little boy sitting next to his mother at the cash desk.

In addition to this various boys and girls can sign up for organised projects. For example projects where girls get an insight into technology-related professions or boys get an insight into nursing professions.

We thought this was a wonderful idea and of course we at Coopers have joined in too! At our Future Day Siena Biedermann and Arieya Stanislawek accompanied their dads to work.

Arieya always though her dad worked in a high rise building and was surprised to find such a homely work environment, but she really liked it. Siena felt like a Coopers employee when she was sitting next to her dad and working on a computer on the Future Day. Arieya enjoyed the job interview and having lunch at the fair with the Coopers team.

At the end of the day we asked the girls where they would like to work when they grow up, and they both replied: "At Coopers!" Siena would like to be the big boss of Coopers and Arieya added she would either like to work for Coopers or be a doctor.

So the Coopers Future Day was a great success and the girls left the office tired and happy. We are really looking forward to the next Future Day and which the girls the best of luck with choosing their profession!
