5 Minutes with Talent Acquisition Consultant Leonie Godt

30. January 2020

Today's blog post is about our colleague Leonie Godt to get to know her a little better. She has been with Coopers for about a year and works in the Basel office as a Talent Acquisition Consultant for IT and Engineering jobs.

Leonie, you have a great background for the recruiting job. You're a graduate in business psychology. Your focus was on personnel and organizational development. Was recruiting an interesting industry for you right from the start?
Absolutely! It's a challenging and exciting job, as you get insights into many lives and companies. I like my role as mediator between the parties involved and the challenge of bringing the right people together. Thanks to my studies I can look at and understand people from different perspectives. This helps me in terms of matching.

You have also worked in a clinical environment before. Where do you see the biggest differences to that?
In both areas you have a great deal of responsibility and intervene in other people's lives.
During my studies I worked in a lock-ward psychiatric department. That was also very exciting, but I missed a lasting sense of achievement. Many patients came back a few months after they were discharged, and we had to start from scratch again. In recruitment, on the other hand, everyone pulls in the same direction and ideally, everyone involved wins. The successes remain! A candidate once said to me "Leonie, you changed my life!"– you don't forget something like that and it's a great motivator.

What was the decisive moment that brought you into recruiting?
It was a gradual process. After graduation, I worked at said psychiatry. Then I worked in healthcare consulting and, eventually, that's how I got into recruiting.

And how did Coopers end up in your focus?
I liked Coopers right away. It's a small boutique agency, informal, young, dynamic. One can realize one's own ideas and is supported in every way. I find that particularly great! How we all work together makes a big difference.

Good cue. At Coopers you are part of a team that is responsible for the placement of IT and engineering experts. What is the dynamic of your team like?
All team members have a completely different background. Broad industry knowledge meets structured pragmatism and detailed work plus my psychological perspective. Thus, we and our working methods complement each other very well. Of course, fun is an important ingredient, too – we are a cool team.

That's right. But like any job, it's not always fun. How do you deal with stress at work? How do you relax?
I like to be out in the nature, in the fresh air. My hobbies bring me perfect inner balance.

You are also regularly in the mountains. What fascinates you about the high altitudes?
Mountains and mountain ranges are fascinating because they radiate absolute peace, grandeur and dignity.

Traditionally, we end our "5 minutes with" interviews with a few unconventional questions. Are you ready?
