5 Minutes with Talent Acquisition Consultant Dilan Gül
In today's blog post we get to know our colleague Dilan Gül a bit better. She has been with Coopers for a good year and works as a Talent Acquisition Consultant in the Basel office. She supports our senior consultants in the recruitment of IT and engineering experts.
Dilan studied German Philology and History at the University of Basel and then taught at a school in the canton of Bern.
Dear Dilan, thank you for taking the time for this interview. Funnily enough, we've known each other for quite a while now. During our studies at the University of Basel, did you ever think that you would work in recruitment at Coopers?
No, never! I come from a family of teachers and my career aspirations were set very early on. When I was able to gain work experience in this profession for the first two years after my studies, I realized that it wasn't the right thing for me after all and so my professional reorientation began at the beginning of 2019.
On LinkedIn I stumbled across recruitment ads several times. The more I found out about them, the more interested and fascinated I became. It was clear to me that I wanted to enter the private sector and since I am very service-oriented and communicative, I was attracted to the job. I have no regrets and am glad that Coopers has enabled me to enter a completely different professional field with a traineeship.
What skills from your master's degree in German and History will help you in the business world?
It's not so much the technical skills as the methodological skills that I was able to take with me: Researching, analyzing and questioning.
Especially in my daily business it helps me a lot, be it researching suitable profiles, analyzing the market situation or building up questions in interview interviews.
Change of topic: At Coopers you are responsible for the placement of IT and engineering experts in the team. How has Corona changed the dynamics and cooperation in your team?
Every Monday we have a virtual update meeting in the team. The interactions we have are well structured and very profitable. I have the impression that we have become much more productive and autonomous in the home office. Minor problems that we used to like to discuss in detail over a coffee in the office are now solved directly by ourselves.
Once or twice a week we also see each other in the office. We coordinate the personal meetings in a meaningful way so that, for example, two employees who have received a new assignment together can come to an agreement.
Surprisingly, I have had more high-quality telephone and personal 1 to 1 meetings in the past months than before. I got to know and appreciate each of my team colleagues in a different way.
What do you like about this job?
The personnel service is very versatile and close to people. Every day I come into contact with many different parties: job seekers, HR professionals, line managers.
This gives me insights into different perspectives and corporate structures.
I also enjoy the right tricky tasks, looking for the needle in the haystack. For example, if we receive a more specific project request and I can sit behind it, turn over every stone until we find the right candidate for the project. At Coopers I am an entrepreneur in the company myself and can use my strengths to achieve a goal.
Besides the daily business, there are also many exciting side tasks. For example, I'm part of a team of super-users that develops and tests our new CRM system. It never gets boring!
How do you relax after a hard day at the office? Can you tell us the secret of your success?
I relax best with a fine glass of wine and in good company. Especially now that social contacts are kept to a minimum, I appreciate the "live interactions" all the more. I have also started reading again. I read 2-3 chapters before I go to sleep to relax.
Traditionally, we end our "5 minutes with" interviews with some unconventional questions. Are you ready?

At the moment I'm a big fan of food apps: Fooby (cool and simple recipes to make yourself) and toogoodtogo (save food from being thrown away)

Very difficult to decide, mountains at the moment!
Do you have a secret vice (guilty pleasure)?

Thanks for the interview and your time, Dilan!
