Coopers EM Bet­ting Game Win­ner 2021

The winner of the Coopers betting game on the European Championship is determined – we were trumped by our former colleague Marino Raschèr! Marino won with 308 points, 7 points ahead of second-placed Sandro and 25 points ahead of bronze-placed Benni.
It is a bit of a cliché that the winners' podium is only occupied by male colleagues. Nevertheless, it is worth mentioning here that 46% of the participants were female.

We sincerely congratulate Marino on his success! Of course, we have already informed him and called him for a short interview.

Marino, congratulations, you are the winner of our EM betting game! Tell us the secret of your success. Did you draw on your football expertise or was it your gut feeling that guided you?
In contrast to the World Cup18 betting game (which Chris and Jan-Philipp won), I tried not to bet based on sympathies. This "rational" approach coupled with a bit of football expertise is what I would call my key to success.

It definitely paid off. Who were you rooting for after Switzerland was unfortunately out?
As always at every tournament, I was already rooting for Switzerland and Italy at the start of the tournament.

Which game was the highlight of the EM for you?
Clearly the match between Switzerland and France. The 3:1 comeback and the penalty shootout were the most emotional moments for me.

Oh yes, that was a great game. We also grew some gray hairs during the game, it was a real thriller! Which player impressed you the most in the tournament?
Federico Chiesa and Leonardo Spinazzola (who unfortunately got injured against Belgium) convinced me the most.

Marino, what do you think about the winner Italy? They deserved the title, didn't they?
All in all, Italy absolutely deserved the title. They played attractive football, a strong group stage and had to face strong teams like Belgium, Spain and England. Overall, it was a very consistent performance.

It's nice that you took part in the betting game, even though you haven't worked at Coopers for over a year. Thank you very much for the interview.
