Since 2020 Coopers is partner of Talentor International – a global network of recruiting and executive search agencies. This worldwide network allows us to support recruiting projects in over 35 countries on five continents.

Besides the advantages this brings for both our candidates and clients, we as an agency profit from a transparent exchange among each other. Partner calls for strategic topics, specific practice groups – and since last year the International Leaders4Tomorrow program is up and running, a global leadership program for rising talents in the recruiting industry. Participants gain insights about leadership, and management, from external guest speakers as well as in personal workshops (in Amsterdam and Vienna). The main task for everyone is to plan and realize an individual project from scratch. That way, the fresh know-how is put into practice right away and participants get to expand their personal skills.

Coopers @ International Leaders4Tomorrow

From Coopers, Nevin Schuler and Jessica Arber joined the program. Nevins project was called Establishment of a New Business Unit in Bern – together with colleagues he built up the permanent recruitment business at the Bern office – very successfully. We had a quick chat with him about it.

Coopers: Nevin, how would you describe consulting/recruiting in your region?
Nevin: The market in Bern is not huge for us, which is why a good customer relationship, and a good reputation are very important. We always try to be present with the client and at the same time offer the best possible service for the candidates. In this way, we are recommended to others and can be successful. People in Bern appreciate the personal contact and are deeply committed locally.

What do you value most when dealing with candidates?
My instincts. If I don't have a good gut feeling about the candidate, I don't submit it to the client. Candidates should be reliable and friendly. If I don't enjoy working with them, then I don't do it.

Which 3 soft skills / characteristics make a good leader for you?

  • Communication: Communication is key for transparency and trust within a team. Good communication prevents misunderstandings and a lack of satisfaction. In my opinion, good communication includes listening and caring for each other.
  • Empathy: Leaders should be able to see things from the perspective of others and understand their point of view. This contributes to a positive working environment and therefore pushes employee motivation.
  • Fun: I think that works should be fun and it needs to be visible that a manager enjoys his or her work. This enthusiasm transfers to the team and improves the dynamics as well as the productivity.

What advice do you have for your colleagues who will join the next L4T?
Chose a topic for your project that you truly enjoy and make use of every opportunity you get to exchange with your international fellow participants.

Thank you so much for your brief sum-up, dear Nevin. Certainly, these tips will be helpful for the next generation of Leaders4Tomorrow – from Coopers side, this will be Joëlle Huber and Mark Thommen. We are excited to learn about their projects and wish them good luck.

Investment in the Future

Many thanks to the Talentor team for the initiative and organization of this training measure. The structured development of young talents enables a continuous improvement of the entire recruiting industry and of course the country-specific agencies.
