External Data Engineer Support for Item Centralization

m/f/d, Freiburg

For our client located in Bulle  (preferably in Bulle, optional in Nussbaumen or Oberopfingen), we are looking for an experienced and motivated Data Engineer to support a major initiative in item master data centralization.

The ideal candidate is hands-on, technically skilled, and enjoys working in a structured and collaborative environment.

Your task:

  • Coordinate item renumbering across divisions to resolve overlaps and maintain data integrity
  • Support proper classification of new (and potentially existing) items according to agreed taxonomies
  • Ensure no new items are created outside controlled number ranges; set up corresponding checks and alerts
  • Assist with data cleansing and migration tasks
  • Create simple documentation and guidance materials for Data Stewards
  • Conduct data profiling, lifecycle checks, and duplicate detection
  • Write scripts (SQL required, Python preferred) to automate quality checks and data cleanups
  • Generate weekly progress reports and support transformation rules (e.g., item code formatting)
  • Collaborate closely with Data Stewards, CIM Team Lead, and the Global Data Architect

Your profile:

  • Proven experience in data engineering or master data management (MDM), ideally in manufacturing or engineering environments
  • Strong technical skills in SQL (mandatory); Python is a plus
  • Familiarity with classification frameworks and taxonomy enforcement
  • Detail-oriented, methodical, and hands-on working style
  • luent in English (spoken and written); German is an advantage
