AI in the Workplace
Survival of the Fittest or Opportunity for All?

from Dr. Elena D’Cruz
19. March 2025

In our recent LinkedIn survey, we asked: "How do you currently rate the demand for your professional skills?" The responses show that many professionals find the job market challenging.
38% say there are only a few opportunities for their skills
30% experience stability but with increasing demands
21% are in high demand
11% find the market unpredictable
A reason for concern? The rapid developments in Artificial Intelligence (AI) are amplifying these uncertainties. Will AI replace my job? A valid question – and the answer is complex.
The concept of "Survival of the Fittest," coined by Herbert Spencer (often mistakenly attributed to Darwin), aptly describes today's job market: Success is not about being the strongest but about those who adapt best to new circumstances – a skill that is becoming increasingly important in times of rapid AI development.
AI as a Catalyst for Change
A leading figure in AI research, co-founder of Anthropic Dario Amodei, has repeatedly emphasized that AI will bring significant changes to the job market. In a widely discussed essay, he argues for example:
- AI will accelerate transformations in scientific disciplines and social structures at an unprecedented pace.
- This shift will not only impact individual jobs but entire academic and economic sectors.
- The more intelligent and autonomous AI becomes, the more humans must adapt – but they will not necessarily lose their jobs.
As an AI pioneer, Amodei also warns that AI systems could reach superintelligence by 2026, which would have profound implications for the economy and society.
At the same time, he predicts that AI could take over up to 90% of coding tasks within months, fundamentally changing the role of developers. What does this imply, then? It is unlikely that all programmers will simply reskill. Instead, the market will polarize: Highly specialized developers with deep expertise in architecture and AI-driven development will remain in demand, while traditional coding tasks, as they exist today, may become increasingly automated.
This transformation aligns with the results of our LinkedIn survey: 38% of respondents report seeing only limited options for their skills, while 30% perceive the market as stable but demanding. This shows that many professionals already perceive technological change as a challenge. The key question, therefore, is not whether AI will replace jobs, but which new skills are now essential to thrive in this transformation.
What does this mean for professionals? Humans are not becoming obsolete – but the way we work must evolve. And this is where we come in as recruiters: We support candidates through this transition, help them reposition themselves, and connect them with companies that offer the right future opportunities.
How to Use AI in Your Favor (Instead of Feeling Replaced)
Dario Amodei sees AI as an accelerating force, creating new jobs – but also significantly transforming existing ones. This is how you can leverage AI in your favor:
- Use AI as an assistant, not a replacement
AI can support you: Automated analyses, reports, suggestions – but you remain the one guiding the process. - Learn to work with AI
Companies do not seek machine operators – they need professionals who understand and effectively use AI. Skills such as prompt engineering, data analysis, and automation are becoming increasingly valuable. - Strengthen your soft skills
Communication, empathy, and critical thinking are becoming even more important – they differentiate humans from machines. - Stay open to new developments
AI is evolving rapidly. Those who stay engaged and experiment with new tools will not be replaced but will remain at the forefront.
The Limitations of AI: Where Humans Remain Irreplaceable
Always keep in mind: Yes, AI automates many tasks – but (so far) it is not capable of everything, like:
- Develop independent creativity and create entirely new concepts (though it can generate ideas and assist creatively, such as in content writing or logo design)
- Show genuine emotional intelligence and empathy (even though it can formulate responses that feel remarkably human and sensitive)
- Solve complex problems with intuition, drawing from human experience
Example IT & Engineering: AI can write code and detect errors – but can it truly design an IT architecture independently? Currently, these tasks are heavily influenced by human expertise, though this could change in the future.
Example Life Sciences: AI can analyze millions of studies – but clinical decisions still require human experience and ethical considerations.
Conclusion: Adaptation Instead of Anxiety Makes AI an Opportunity Instead of a Danger
Survival of the Fittest still does not mean having the strongest resume but adapting to change. Dario Amodei predicts that AI will lead the next scientific and economic revolution – but humans remain the decisive factor.
