In the role, you as Global Category Packaging Manager (m/f/d) you are accountable for maintaining and enhancing category strategies while driving key initiatives within the Packaging portfolio. As a member of the Plastics & Packaging Category team, you and your 7 colleagues play a pivotal role in identifying opportunities, engaging proactively and collaborating with senior business stakeholders and colleagues from other Procurement pillars to deliver sustainable value for our client from the diagnostic industry.

notice: the position requires up to 20% travel activities

You are responsible for the Primary Packaging category, which includes materials that directly contact reagents (e.g., bottles, tubes) and key packaging components that do not (e.g., racks, cassettes, covers). This category primarily comprises high-precision, high-throughput injection-molded plastic parts, though not exclusively.

Your Tasks:

  • Take ownership of the global category by constantly challenging the status-quo
  • Identify enhancements and convincing the upper management to follow new ways of working, will be part of your responsibility
  • Develop and implement the Category Strategy and Multi-Year Pipeline, driving and/or executing key strategic initiatives.
  • Conduct extensive and thorough risk / CSR reviews and incorporate those as a key chapter into your Category Strategy and value pipelines
  • Intensify existing relationships with our external strategic partners
  • Monitor the market closely and identify players which fit best to our needs
  • Ensure contract compliance, supporting the harmonization of processes and technology
  • Coach Procurement colleagues and provide opportunities for professional development

Your Profile:

  • University degree (with Business, Engineering or Scientific degree preferable)
  • 7+ years in-depth strategic procurement experience with extensive knowledge of category management and advanced strategic sourcing
  • 7+ years overall business experience, including working within a regulated industry for regulated categories with familiarity of relevant legal risks and issues 
  • Experience in managing global cross-functional project teams 
  • Proven financial and business acumen (i.e. should cost, cost modeling) and proven capability in negotiation, conflict resolution and stakeholder management 
  • Excellent communication and project management skills with an ability to lead and manage teams effectively in a truly global, fluid, interactive environment 
  • Change management and process improvement skills with direct experience in delivering complex business process / organizational change 
  • Experience in the application of Strategic Relationship Management principles, expert proficiency in Procurement specific systems and processes for efficient management of sourcing events and contract negotiations (e.g. e-sourcing, e-auction) 
  • Business level fluency in English
