Work as Coopers Contractor in Switzerland – Interview with Viktor

15. May 2019

Our internal Coopers team currently counts 24 employees – with an increasing tendency as the latest two blog posts have nicely shown.

Part of Coopers are also over 150 external employees and contractors in Switzerland. They belong to the Coopers family just the same and contribute to the positive company development. Therefore, the spotlight is on them in today's blog post. We met with Viktor for an interview, so he can share his story with us.

Viktor is originally from Hungary and about five years ago he and his wife moved to Basel. They wanted to experience something new, get to know a foreign culture and meet new people. Friends enthused about the multicultural city of Basel and during their job search in Basel they crossed paths with Coopers. Through Coopers they both found a fulfilling job and meanwhile, they are a little family of three.

Coopers: Dear Viktor, how are you in your current job?
Viktor: Thank you, my job situation is great! Since a few months I am working as Purchaser at a major player in the pharmaceutical industry. A career in this industry was definitely on my bucket list.

For us as recruiters it is always wonderful to see such dreams coming true. Viktor worked together with our Senior MSP Consultant Alessia Biassoli. When she saw the job description, she immediately knew that position as Buyer was made for Viktor.

Viktor: Alessia was great! She supported me during the whole process. She gave me valuable background information, that's normally impossible to have. Like, which interview partner speaks and prefers which languages.

Viktor is aware of his situation: Coopers opened the door for him, but it is on him now to make a lasting impression. His contract lasts until the end of 2019

Coopers: Which advantages and disadvantages do you see in contracting, i.e. external employment?
Viktor: For me, the advantages prevail: You learn how to learn fast! It is key to quickly get into the position and the flow of things. You also learn the importance of networking, that should also happen fast. There are many experienced old hands around and it is great to see how quickly the own network is growing.
Of course there are also disadvantages: It can happen that the team affiliation suffers. Currently, this is absolutely not the case for me. I am part of a great team and feel well integrated since my start. Sure, the uncertainty, how everything will continue after the contract runs out, can be a stress factor. Chances are you will have to start new. But even if, I still see the bright side because I would get to learn something new then.

Moreover, it is no problem for Viktor to have "two employers". The rules are clear, he is employed at Coopers but works daily at the pharma company. His team there is what he considers his colleagues. He feels really good there and hopes for an extension of his contract or an internal permanent position. Nevertheless, he does feel related to Coopers, too. For example, he appreciates the events for external employees and the interaction there with other contractors.

Coopers: What advice do you have for jobseekers?
Viktor: Contact Coopers! No matter if you are looking for a contracting position in Switzerland or a permanent role, with a recruiter you have a competent sparring partner on your side. Before Coopers I was in touch with other recruitment agencies in Switzerland, but there I was nothing but a number. At Coopers I am seen as a person! There philosophy makes all the difference. Companies are aware of that, too. I have heard, that Coopers won my current position against other, way bigger agencies. I am outright satisfied with Coopers!
Coopers: Thanks so much, Viktor!
